Who would have thought that a short trek to get a haircut would turn into an ambulance ride to the hospital for stitches in the back of my head? But the ice on the road had me tumble backwards, landing on the back of my head, bleeding as only head wounds do. Suddenly a host of college students surrounded me (I was on the Hill by the university), one gave up his jacket so my bloody head would not be on the road, they called 911, the ambulance came, and one of the college students was a former student at my parish school! Thanks Teddy and the other students who took care of me until the great Pridmark ambulance EMTs took me off in excellent fashion to the hospital. Thank you to them as well! And Lastly, the ER nurses and doctors took care of me so well and with great skill and great bedside manner. I've been in that ER many times giving last rites to patients, and here I was receiving their care. College students, EMTs and ER people: I'm proud of you and very grateful.
