The kids in our school are doing a Lenten program of collecting people's spare pennies and contributing them to "Pennies for Peace" to help the effort of someone who is helping people in the rugged high country of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Greg Mortenson was a mountain climber whose passion shifted from mountain climbing to a profound care for the poor people who live in those mountains. And that care turned into starting schools for the children, by now well over 55 schools - schools especially for girls. A Lenten recommendation to learn more is to read the book: Three Cups of Tea.
