All Catholic parishes all over the country have been asked by our bishops to encourage every Catholic to contact senators and members of congress to register opposition to the healthcare package, as it stands now, that is soon coming to a vote.
The Catholic Church is no stranger to universal healthcare and has been doing it all over the world for centuries. In fact, it could be argued that the very idea of a hospital was initiated by the Catholic Church with its system of hospitals, usually run by sisters of religious orders. We know what universal health care is, and what it is not. Healthcare is not killing the innocent.
As long as the present form of legislation stands, the Catholic Church throughout the country is asking all of us to voice our opposition to our members of Congress. Right now the legislation is proceeding with its provision to make all of us pay for abortions and limit healthcare providers from exercising their freedom of conscience in refusing to participate in any way with abortion.
This cannot stand. Let Congress hear our voices.
